Not An Oh-Ree-Ole

Often mistaken for an oriole, the Eastern towhee is so named because of it’s distinctive call.  The largest of the sparrow family, the towhee is more often heard than seen, due to the fact that they nest low to the ground, often in shrubs and bushes.

Knock Knock! Guess Who?

The pileated woodpecker was the model for the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker.  Unlike Woody, these beautiful birds are generally shy and timid.  They can be hard to spot, despite their size and color, but the rapping of their beaks into tree bark is unquestionable.
