WHS Golf Reunion | Old Friends And Great Times

Recently, the Walker High School reunion committee sponsored an alumni golf outing at Mystery Valley Golf Club in Lithonia. The weather was perfect and it was a great time, a wonderful gathering of old friends. I saw a quote recently stating that, “the best way to feel young is to be around people you were young with.” And that is true. Some of the folks who were there I had not seen in forty-plus years and the stories, the memories and the laughter unfolded. The time between then and now evaporated and the years before seemed like only yesterday. The older I get, the more I realize the shortness of the time frame of those years. Some of us moved away and attended different schools. We became rivals, competing against one another on the field, on the court and in the classroom. But we were still friends then and we are still friends today. In the age of social media, we are now able to talk and share, organize reunions, picnics, luncheons and outings. The world has become much smaller. In some ways, that’s not such a good thing. The world was smaller in our youth, contained for the most part within the doors and walls of our respective schools and the confines of our communities. Through the miracles of technology, we can connect with those who shared the same confines along with us. And that, my friends, is a great thing.
